CALL FOR ART PROSPECTUS

CREATIVE PARAMETERS

• Art on Main gallerist, Andrea Lamarsaude and exhibition curator Laurie Mahoney are seeking a diverse group of artists to submit entries of original, handmade kites and airborne curiosities.

• Accepting entries of original, handmade, lightweight 3D work that can be displayed “aloft” from the gallery ceiling

• Accepting 2D & 3D work inspired by kites, and/or airborne, windblown curiosities, creative works inspired by themes of flight and movement, that can be displayed on the gallery walls or on pedestals.

• This call encourages experimentation and exploring metaphorical interpretations of flight and being airborne.

INSTALLATION PARAMETERS

Any kites or artwork that will need to be displayed "aloft" - as in hanging from the ceiling - must be lightweight and have all hanging materials needed to hang the piece.

2D art not to exceed 48" tall x 40" wide.

2D art must be either framed, or if unframed, on gallery wrapped canvas and ready to hang or it will not be accepted.

The gallery will not install any hardware required to hang the piece. The artist must submit art that is ready to hang.

· For those submitting 3D art pieces that will require display on a pedestal, please indicate if you have a pedestal that can be used.

· No sawtooth hangers accepted

· Curator has the right to refuse any art that does not adhere to these rules

· Artist should indicate on the back of the piece, their name, the name of the piece and contact info.

ARTWORK DELIVERY
Artists are responsible for bringing accepted work to Art on Main:

Art delivery – Friday, April 11th (10 am - 5 pm) and Saturday, April 12th (9 am - 11 am)

Artists are responsible for picking up their work, Saturday, May 3rd, 3 pm to 5 pm after the closing reception.

Any art shipped to the gallery for the exhibit must come with return instructions should the work not be sold. Art on Main Gallery is not responsible for shipping art back to the artist. Artist must provide shipping materials, instructions and a prepaid shipping label or some form of payment for any return shipping charges.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• All artworks must be for sale

• Art on Main will take a commission of 40% of any work sold

• Please no emails, texts, or social media DMs for submitting your art

• Artists may submit a maximum of three works of art for the curator’s consideration

ARTWORK PHOTOS

Please submit images that are saved as high-resolution files. Our submittal platform can accept files that are up to 5MB in size. Most smart phones have cameras that take high resolution images.

ARTWORK ACCEPTANCE

The curator and gallerist will make a final decision for the selection of entries for the show. They will review photographs of completed artwork only, showing just the artwork with clean edges. The decision of the curator/gallerist is final.

PROMOTION OF EXHIBIT
Unless otherwise communicated by the artist to the curator/gallerist, permission to use photos of accepted entries for promotional and educational purposes is considered permitted.

ART DELIVERY, LIABILITY, AND INSURANCE, ART PICKUP, RETURN SHIPPING

Any accepted artwork that is delivered after the scheduled drop off dates listed in the key dates above will not be included in the exhibition. Art on Main will not be responsible for damage, loss, or wear and tear of any work while in transit to be delivered. All reasonable care will be given to each work of art once it is received.

Unless otherwise communicated to an artist, Art on Main will provide insurance on works of art. If a work is not accepted for insurance the artist will be notified. The artist can then choose to include her/his artwork in the show without insurance coverage. The artist will be asked to sign a waiver releasing Art on Main from any liability.

Art on Main will not be responsible for art that is damaged prior to bring the art to the gallery or while in the Art on Main Gallery due to any malfunctioning hanging or installation hardware that were provided/installed by the artists. As an additional safeguard, artists do have the option to purchase coverage separately from their own insurance providers.

Any art not picked up after the show closes will be subject to removal from the gallery.

2D Art

• Paintings and Drawings

  • Imagery of kites, birds, flying machines, windblown curiosities.

  • Abstract interpretations of flight or freedom.

  • Imaginative airborne scenes.

• Mixed Media

  • Collages incorporating lightweight materials like feathers, fabric, or string to evoke a sense of flight.

  • Layered works using translucent papers or acrylics to mimic flying qualities.

• Photography

  • Captures of kites in motion or other airborne subjects like hot air balloons, planes, or birds.

  • Abstract photography exploring things that are airborne, wind, and sky.

  3D Art

• Sculptural Kites

  • Handcrafted functional or purely decorative kites with unique artistic designs.

  • Materials could range from traditional paper and bamboo to modern mixed media.

• Installations

  • Hanging mobiles featuring lightweight materials like fabric, paper, and string.

  • Assemblages that suggest movement or float in the air.

• Ceramics, Sculpture, Glass

  • Pieces inspired by kites or airborne forms, such as birds, clouds, or abstract shapes.

  • Recreations of flying machines, kites, birds, or whimsical flying creatures.
